The Grange
House built in the 1760s for John Osborn, three times mayor of St Albans. It was originally set in large grounds extending back towards Bricket Road. Maps show that in the 1960s it housed the local Council offices. It now houses the St Albans branch of the Nationwide Building Society, with the grounds behind housing the City Hall and the St Albans Arena. On two days a week the space in front of the shops and cafés is filled with market stalls. All week the traffic, left, is horrific: innumerable buses, lorries, vans and private cars choke a narrow carriageway.
