Street market, St Albans
Market stalls are a frequent sight in St Peter's Street. Retail must generate a lot of rubbish but only in street markets is it so visible. Even so, this is a very pleasant street – apart from the appalling traffic.

On two days a week the space in front of the shops and cafés is filled with market stalls. All week the traffic, left, is horrific: innumerable buses, lorries, vans and private cars choke a narrow carriageway.
