Former stationmaster's house
Former stationmaster's house for the Midland Railway's station, the main buildings for which when first opened in 1868 were situated where the Ridgmont Road station carpark is now sited, the station buildings having being rebuilt on the other side of the railway, and opposite side of Victoria Street, in 1972/73.
The house is locally listed.

St Albans South Signal Box - the Garden in 2013
The North end of the garden in the care of the St Albans Signal Box Preservation Trust with an increasing number of signals on display - see Image for the same area just over a year ago. The two red-armed signals are examples of the Midland Railway's stop signals from the early 1900s.

St Albans City station, Ridgmont Road entrance
The station has been much refurbished over the years and, apart from a preserved signal box, there is virtually no evidence today of its Midland Railway heritage. Victoria Street can be seen at the top of the steps. The main entrance faces the bus station on the opposite side of the tracks.

The grounds of St Albans South Signal Box in 2012
A view of the north end of the grounds in which the restored St Albans South signal box stands. (See Image for the box itself.) Some of the demonstration signals are visible. Shunting at St. Albans
I used to see class 25's running light loco a lot of the time, but 25313 seems to have found a couple of wagons to play with in the parcels bay. Note the Royal Mail lorry behind the rear wagon. The driver has an audience as he carries out the manoeuvre - it's a Saturday afternoon and I suspect the guys are preparing to finish work for the day. The bay no longer exists.
