All that remains of the castle of Rothes. Pillaged for its stonework its remarkable that even this wall remains standing! A good vantage point however to view this distillery town.

This view looks south up the River Spey towards Dufftown, which is in the hills beyond. This is the very heart of the Malt Whisky Country, where half of all Scotland's whisky distilleries are situated.

Not very impressive, is it? This solitary piece of masonry is all that is left of Rothes Castle, which was abandoned by its owners in 1622 and destroyed by local people about 1660 because it was being used as a refuge by bandits and outlaws. See also Image]

Rothes Castle
This solitary piece of masonry is all that is left of Rothes Castle, which was abandoned by its owners in 1622 and destroyed by local people about 1660 because it was being used as a refuge by bandits and outlaws. The daffodils cheer up the rather underwhelming view.
