Based on the number of buttons beside the central door, there are nine flats above the fast-food shops. A rare example of graffiti in Aberdeen can be seen on the wall to the right.

Ethnic paradise?
Rose Street must have about a dozen ethnic restaurants and carry-outs (take-aways). Here we see the Shahbaaz curry house and Marman's kebab house at street level and the Bhan Thai restaurant on the first floor. It must get a bit overpowering in the flats above...

William Robertson Smith plaque
Smith was a leading figure in the Free Church and a highly prolific Biblical scholar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Robertson_Smith . His views on the historical (in)accuracy of the Bible were too much for some conservatives and he was put on trial for "heresy" (http://www.william-robertson-smith.net/en/e060heresytrialEN.htm ) in 1878. He was found not guilty, but dismissed from his post of professor at the Free Church College in Aberdeen (which is now a raucous nightclub).
