In the distance can be seen the NLA Tower (affectionately known as the wedding cake and also the 50 pence building, because of its shape) now officially called No 1 Croydon. It is (in 2008) the tallest building in the whole of Croydon at 269 feet, and was built in 1970, although will soon be surpassed by several taller buildings currently in development. The cables visible in the picture are the Croydon Tram power lines. In line with Croydon's shopping status, this side of George street is lined with shops and businesses, although the larger stores are missing here - more likely to be found to the north west of this point around North End.
