As far as I know this is not the site of an old railway, so I assume the signal is an import. Patie's Road is on the line of an old road to Kate's Mill and Redhall Mill, and it is assumed that Patie may have been the owner of one of the mills. Margaret Burns has commented that there was apparently a puggy railway which ran across the Union Canal over Allan Park Bridge (now a footbridge with water pipes underneath), along Craiglockhart Road North to bring the stone to build Redford Barracks at Colinton Road. So if it was an import it may not have travelled far.
