This is a puzzle, as it gives access only to a narrow strip of land between the Batley and Adwalton line (crossing the bridge) opened in 1864 and the Dewsbury to Leeds line, opened in 1848, running alongside. It looks from the joins in the masonry to be an insertion after the railway was built.
