Elland War Memorial

Image: © Humphrey Bolton Taken: 15 Dec 2005

This is a bronze statue of a soldier in First World War trenchkit, by F. W. Doyle Jones, on a white granite plinth. It was unveiled on 16th September 1922. It is at the lower end of the park. The soldier is looking out onto a panoramic view over the valley, guarding us against Russian soldiers marching from the north with snow on their boots. To the right of the soldier one of Elland's blocks of flats, built to replace slum dwellings, can be seen.
