The signpost on the right of the picture marks the end of a "Quiet Lane" as designated in the Transport Act 2000. The road it crosses is a heavily used B road with traffic travelling at 50 or 60 miles per hour and no footpath. This makes it difficult for horse riders, cyclists and walkers to reach the quiet lane.
