The plaque in the small stone pier marks the entrance to the former Burwell railway station which was a stop on the Cambridge to Mildenhall Railway Line and functioned between 1884 and 1962. The actual station would have been beyond the low pink building to the left. The plaque was established this year (2008) jointly by Burwell Parish Council and Burwell History Society.
