A plaque above the entrance to the thatched hall states that it was built in 1930 in memory of Urban Hanlon Broughton (1857-1929) by his sons. Urban Broughton was an engineer who made a fortune in the USA from railway and mining interests. His sons had bought the nearby Anglesey Estate in 1926.
