The site of Saltmill millpond: ‘A quarter of a mile below Dodbrooke Quay is Saltmill Quay, on the same side of the estuary. Here stood some corn mills until the middle of the eighteenth century driven by the water secured by flood gates at the flowing of the tide, in an enclosure at the side of the quay, but which about the year 1800 was turned into a meadow ..’ [Source: S P Fox.
