The start of the Leigh Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. The waste transfer yard on the left is on the site of a brewery. The narrows beyond the pipe bridge is the site of a swing bridge carrying Westwood Lane from Poolstock to Ince. A footbridge over the gap is hidden from view. The spire of St Catharine's Church at Scholes is visible in the distance, with Winter Hill in the far distance.
