The Cobbler's Thumb seems to have been an early victim of the pub re-branding craze, for it was evidently built as the New England Inn, from the text in the pediment, but a photo, probably dating from the early 1990s, shows it in its present incarnation. The frontage here is on New England Road while New England Street is off to the left. Update January 2021 The pub was demolished in 2013.
