The terminus at the end of the Caterham Valley line which branches off the main line at Purley. The line opened in 1856 as the Caterham Railway but went bankrupt in 1859 whereupon it was taken over by the South East Railway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caterham_Line
