This tunnel enabled cyclists to cross the St Ives railway line without the possibility of a wait at the level crossing; also without having to negotiate the rather narrow and busy stretch of the Milton Road around this crossing. The line has long closed but the track is only recently being removed. I believe this tunnel, or bridge if you prefer, may remain in place, with the railway track eventually being replaced by a guided bus spur to a new Chesterton Parkway railway station.
