Higher Flax Mills

Now used by John Boyd Textiles Ltd for weaving horse hair on power looms. The main mill building is to the left and straight ahead is a warehouse building. The site is listed Grade II*. It is a rare survivor in use as a textile mill and the company is one of the last in the world still weaving hair cloth using hair from the tails of live horses. The weft is horse hair and the warp is cotton or silk.
