The signalbox was situated on the Manchester-bound platform. Until the 1970s goods lines ran behind the box into a coal and general goods yard situated north of Hollinwood Avenue. By 1978, the box was only opened in rush hours to increase line capacity between Oldham and Thorpes Bridge Junction (Newton Heath). The box has since been demolished.
