The cloister of the Vicars' Choral College dates from 1472, replacing their previous accommodation which was on Castle street to the east of the cathedral. Hereford being an "Old Foundation" or "secular" cathedral rather than of monastic origin.. The vicars choral singing the daily round of divine services in the Cathedral rather than monks. The tower of Hereford Cathedral can be seen in the background.
