St. Peter's Church & School, Borough Road, North Shields

This is part of the site of the former church and school which were both demolished in the 1930s slum clearances. The church, which was commonly called the 'Sailor's Church', was built in 1863 and occupied the lower part of the site on the bottom corner of Borough Road. The school, which was built in 1898, occupied the upper part of the site, as seen in this photograph. Access to the school was through the arched doorway in the background from St. Peter's Stairs https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7721037.
