Growing on Meadow Walk, in Priory Gardens. The cowslip is a member of the Primulaceae family. Because of widespread use of herbicides in agriculture and for keeping down weeds on waysides, and due to putting grassland under the plough, there was a dramatic decline of cowslips between 1930 and 1980. Meantime the plant is again fairly common throughout all of Great Britain but is absent from most of Scotland.
