Foxcovert Road was split into two when the railway crossing was closed to motor traffic in the 1980s. Consequently it is no longer possible to drive directly between Werrington on the northern periphery of Peterborough and the villages of Glinton and Peakirk along this route although it is still accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. This section of Foxcovert Road, which is located immediately to the south of the former level crossing, is blocked off to motor vehicles and now functions purely as a footpath. During the extensive residential development in Werrington in the 1980s, a pathway known as Foxcovert Walk was constructed, which traces the route of the former road and runs between Hodgson Avenue and Hall Lane/Fenbridge Road. The two remaining sections of Foxcovert Road still open to vehicular traffic, one adjoining Peakirk Road/St. Pega's Road at its northern end and the other adjoining Hall Lane/Fenbridge Road at its southern end, are now no through routes providing access for residents.
