There has been a church at Laceby since 1172 and part of the tower dates from around this time. The building was restored and added to by James Fowler in the 19th century. John Whitgift, rector at St Margaret's from 1572 to 1577 became Dean of Lincoln Cathedral and Archbishop of Canterbury and is commemorated in stained glass windows in the vestry and chancel.
