Kelso hosted the start and finish of the Tour of Britain 2024, Stage 1, hence the town was very busy on Tuesday. The shop windows were beautifully decorated with cycling paraphernalia, rosettes, red, white and blue bunting and saltires. Above the cobbled Square fluttered blue and white flags and there were bike tents and stands, camera men were up above on high platforms and the pavement cafes and pubs were all doing a good trade with plenty of customers sitting in the sunshine. Later in the day, young Frenchman Paul Magnier aged only 20, won the stage. He was presented on the podium with a picnic basket full of Scottish produce.
