Looking across the A65 in Long Preston the position of the West Riding CC can be seen below road level. This is one of 615 set up in 1893/94 all over the old West Riding. The family firm of Gill and Frank Stead, stonemasons, of Mirfield were awarded the contract and had to complete the work in 12 months or incur a penalty. The work was done on time. Grade II listed 1166456.
