Aberdeen - Union Street - Bus Gate

Eerily quiet view eastwards along Union Street from Union Terrace. This section of Aberdeen's famous "Granite Mile" was pictured devoid of traffic and the pavements were nowhere near thronged as in the past. The impecunious city council continues to take money from errant motorists, establishing "bus gates" and a new Low Emission Zone (LEZ). Footfall in the historic city centre has slumped markedly to the detriment of traders and many former shops remain empty. The new and enlarged indoor shopping mall at Union Square has taken away much business from Union Street. www.aberdeencity.gov.uk
