The clock tower commemorating Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee was inaugurated in June 1898. According to the plaque 'it no doubt proved very useful to railway passengers hurrying along North Road to catch their trains'. Sadly nobody hurries to catch a train in Ripon anymore - the station closed in 1967.
