Brooksby House was built in 1837 as a yachting residence for a Glasgow merchant, Matthew Preston. It was designed by David Hamilton and is one of the architect’s finest classical villas. The house was acquired by Glasgow's Victoria Infirmary in 1896 and was officially opened by Lady Watson on 26 June 1897. It offered accommodation for 24 patients and was known as Victoria Convalescent Home. It was then taken over by NHS Ayrshire & Arran Health Board and became a residential care home. It is now connected to Brooksby Medical & Resource Centre and also houses Largs registry office. Category A-listed Building.
