The remains of Old Ellon Castle glimpsed through a gap between the yew trees in the formal garden. There isn't much left of the original castle, parts of which date from the 15th and 16th centuries. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. See https://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/SM7333 for a full description and https://www.elloncastlegardens.net/history/ .
