This area was the location of the (long-gone) telegraph pole and railway sleeper works belonging to Alex Bruce & Co. Creosote was used to preserve both sleepers and poles and the works were known locally as 'the creosote works'. Nothing but long grass and piles of rubble remain to mark what was once a busy and important employer in the area. From the mid 1960s close to this area there were also railway sidings consisting of several parallel tracks where coal trains destined for Methil Power Station (commissioned in 1965, decommissioned in 2000 and finally demolished in 2011) https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/58405 were 'parked' until being moved up to supply the power station with coal slurry.
