This part of Caterham, known as Caterham Valley to distinguish it from Caterham-on-the-Hill, is the newer part of the town. It has grown up around the railway station (on the left in this view) which opened in 1856 and includes the main shopping centre. It nestles in the North Downs and the wooded ridge top can be seen in the background.
