The railway crosses the B1176 from Stamford to Grantham (ahead). The bridge was built to carry two tracks and later extended each side to carry the current four. (The line south from Stoke Summit near Grantham was the stretch of the line on which, in 1938, the engine "Mallard" set the world speed record for a steam locomotive. It had to slow hereabouts because of the sharper curves at the next station to the south, Essendine.)
