The church is known particularly for this scheme of mosaic decoration of 1916 by Frank Brangwyn. In the words of Susan Wrathmell in the Pevsner guide, "the chancel and nave are separated by cancelli on which a procession of white-robed neophytes moves towards the opening in the centre, eager to be baptised by St Aidan".
