The name would suggest an off licence but "Freehold Trade Premises with Spirit Dealer’s & Retail Licence attached now in the occupation of Mr Edward WT Buck, Wine Merchant, known as 'The Waveney Wine & Spirit Stores'." so is included as one of Beccles' may public houses. It was open in 1861, in 1889 the house and premises known as the Waveney Wine & Spirits Stores for many years occupied by the late Mr E Buck, are put up for sale by public auction & purchased by Mr Morse for £830. George Smith was the licensee in 1893 and thought to have closed in 1907.
