This recently painted Huddersfield TO and FROM stone is in a cul-de-sac off New Hey Road near junction 23 of the M62. With FROM/HUDDERSFIELD/3½/MILES on the left face and TO/HUDDERSFIELD/3½/MILES on the right, it is the stone that shows the greatest distance of all these stones measured from the Market Cross. There are 24 of these 19C stones still in situ around Huddersfield. They were set up for the Town Watch Committee to regulate the Hansom Cab Fare-stages. For the full story of this stone Link 6757120.
