Set in the pavement, a utility cover inscribed GAS. Possibly related to the former British Gas Light Co. Ltd. , formed 1824. It operated at seven stations including Kingston upon Hull. Consequential of the Gas Act 1948, the company transferred to the Eastern Gas Board, and then the North Eastern Gas Board in 1951.
