Rolling Road Block on the M5 near Tytherington

The National Highways Agency car in front was one of two which performed a rolling roadblock to slow and control the traffic to clear the section of motorway ahead. The sign in the rear window displays the words DON’T PASS on a scrolling display whilst the officer in the passenger seat is making the “slow down” hand signal as they brought the following traffic to a standstill. After putting out some traffic cones, the officer explained that an ambulance had broken down ahead and they needed to clear the roadway to allow a second ambulance to perform a patient transfer safely. The whole operation was carried out quickly and we were underway again in a few minutes.
