The steel pedestrian suspension bridge was constructed in 2002. "Originally named the Millennium Bridge it was renamed the Penny Ferry Bridge after public consultation, the name deriving from a ferry which once existed nearby." https://www.bridgesonthetyne.co.uk/millfoot.html
