This road, A168, used to be the southbound carriageway of the A1. And when this West Riding CC milestone was set up in 1893/94 it was the Great North Road. On the 29 miles between Ferrybridge and Boroughbridge only 9 of the milestones have survived. This one near the entrance to Ornhams Hall, has been painted by Milestone Society members. There is no name of the foundry on the bevel as there is on many other WRCC stones, so it is not known who made the castings for this route.
