A detail of the east end of St Mary's church, Fretherne: two angels shield their eyes. Along with the other fine details of the mid-Victorian church, they are some of the many things to intrigue the visitor. The local lords of the manor, the Darell family, were largely responsible for the funding of the church, which was designed by Francis Niblett and later embellished by J.W. Hugall.
