Frampton-on-Severn's Cadbury Hall was built in 1936 and is now run by the Frampton on Severn Community Association, a local charity. But Frampton's association with chocolate goes back a century. Gloucestershire was an intensive dairy producing area and Cadbury built a factory on the banks of the canal, not very far away, in the First World War. Cocoa arrived via the canal and was mixed with the milk (brought by horse and cart) to create ‘chocolate crumb’, which was then shipped up to the Midlands. Cadbury was the main employer in Frampton and a generous benefactor, founding many buildings and facilities apart from the hall. The chocolate firm finally closed in 1982.
