This striking wall mural facing the outdoor car park at Tesco was commissioned by Energise Galashiels and completed by Global Street Art. It depicts the former textile industry in the town. At one time 28 weaving mills operated along the Gala Water valley, but a decline in the textile industry set in after the Second World War, and the majority of the mill buildings have been demolished or renovated for multiple occupancy. Gala Mill operated by Schofield Textile Dyers and Finishers in Huddersfield Street is the only remaining mill in the town. For a view of Gala Mill chimney, see Image
