The welcome to Wales seems superfluous as traffic passing this sign has almost certainly come from Wales. The way that the boundary between Montgomeryshire and Shropshire falls here results in passing from England to Wales in a west -east direction. The small area of Shropshire that the A489 has just passed through is effectively an island, there being no road connection to the rest of the county without passing through Powys.
