Ordnance Survey 1GL bolt benchmark levelled at 356.538 feet above Liverpool Datum in 1844 during the Carlisle to North Shields Survey. The surveyor's description was 'No. 41. Bolt in South pier of New Mill Bridge, over small river ; 0.93 ft. above surface'. It was later levelled at 109.356m above Newlyn Datum and verified in 1955
