The grade II listed building (list entry 1194881) incorporates part of the original Franciscan Friary of c1295, altered and extended in 1538 (the right hand end in this photo) and again in 1921-8 in sympathetic style, by architect G C Lowbridge as a college building and public library. A planning application submitted in 2022 (ref 22/00993/LBC) to convert it to apartments met with local opposition and had still not been determined at the time of submitting this photo.
