Arkell's is a traditional family business in a Victorian tower brewery and many of the processes are much as they were when the current brewery was built in 1861. The grist (milled malted barley) is mixed with the brewer's liquor (treated and Burtonised local mains water) in the mash tun for some time before the liquid is drained into the underback and then raised to the copper (seen above) where it is boiled and hopped. A big thanks to our guide for letting us get this meaningful angle.
