The arms point to Goldenhill Play Park (3.25 leagues); Bar Hill Fort (1.2 leagues); and Rome (413 leagues). Whoever calculated the distances for this sign got their leagues mixed up. A Roman league was 7,500 Roman feet, the equivalent of 2.2 km or 1.4 miles. However, the distances here are based on the more modern definition of a league (3 miles). Rome is just over 1,200 miles from Kirkintilloch, as the crow flies.
