The house on the left is not what its plain brick front, dating from 1900, might suggest. The plastered end gable, the irregular roof ridge and the fine chimney stack are the clues that it is timber-framed and old. The Grade II listing explains that it is "possibly of C16 origins with C17 alterations" and that the "ridge stack of red brick with grouped shafts set diagonally" dates from c 1620. The top of the stack looks to have been repaired with yellow brick, perhaps when the front was brick-cased.
