Thames Valley Police Information

Police Service of Northern Ireland

Thames Valley Police is the largest non-metropolitan police force in England and Wales. We police the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, and serve a diverse population of more than two million, plus six million visitors who come to Thames Valley each year. We patrol 196 miles of motorway - more than any other British police force. The Thames Valley Police force area is divided into 12 Local Policing Areas (LPAs). For more information, visit the Thames Valley Police website.

Sandhurst Neighbourhood

Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Priorities

27 Jun 2023

To deal with the reports of Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) in particular what are referred to as "Cruises" or "Car Meets" with cars been driven in a loud, reckless and intimidating manner, with excess speed and skidding in circles (known as Doughnuts) in the large open air car park of the stores at The Meadows, Sandhurst.

Response (4 Jun 2024)

The local neighbourhood police team are working with the stores and landowners and already conducted a number of policing operations to identify offenders, some of whom travel significant distance from other counties to participate in these events.
A number of Section 59 Written Warnings have been issued to offending drivers. (these are issued under the Police Reform Act 2002 for any vehicle or driver seen driving in an anti social manner, repeat behaviour by the same vehicle or driver enables the police to then seize the vehicle.
The neighbourhood team will be making targeted patrols of the area in order to deter these events.
17/11/2023 Meeting held on 10/11/23 with Tesco manager with our concerns. Waiting for a reply from car park management company. Meanwhile police continue to make ongoing patrols during shifts throughout the week.
Due to fireworks being set off near to the Tesco petrol station, police imposed a section 34 Dispersal Order on Saturday 4th November for a period of 24hours , and a number of cars were moved on from the location without any problems.
12/12/2023 Ongoing liaison with Tesco and car park managing company with discussions to review their security measures, Police patrols are still ongoing throughout the week.
06/01/2024 Ongoing liaison with Tesco and car park managing company with discussions to review their security measures. Patrols are still ongoing throughout the week. Due to the cold weather, cars meeting up have decreased and on the plus side, those who are there have been positive with Police engagement.
03/02/2024 We are still having ASB issues reported but not at the numbers we were receiving. Still ongoing liaison with Tesco and car park managing company with discussions to review their security measures. Patrols are still ongoing throughout the week. Due to the cold weather, car meets have decreased and the drivers of the vehicles that have continued to, have been positive to the police engagement. 22nd April 2024 – Meeting with The Meadows Centre Manager.
PC Murphy attended a meeting with The Centre Manager (CM), regarding the ongoing issue of Vehicular Anti-Social Behaviour. During this meeting it was agreed that the implementation of the car park barriers were helping with issues when the store is closed, but there was still work to do for the evening gap between 1800-0000 hours.
PC Murphy provided some guidance to target hardening measures from previous experience of similar issues in other areas. CM will be exploring these options and is currently in the process of getting quotes for CCTV and ANPR, which will assist police in enforcement action with an aim to deter anti-social users.
18/05/24 - We are continuing patrols around The Meadows and engaging with the stores with a view to getting CCTV/ ANPR cameras installed.
04/06/2024 We are continuing patrols around The Meadows car park and engaging with the stores there to put in cameras and speed restrictions.

02/07/2024 There has been a drop in calls to police. This may well be because of the car park owners putting in restrictions and issuing fines, and putting the entrance barriers down at times when customers are not using the car park.

19 Sep 2024

Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) in particular vehicular ASB taking place at The Meadows Car Park.

Response (19 Sep 2024)

PC Murphy has worked closely with the landowner to reduce the ASB at The Meadows, this has included presenting proposals of target hardening to reduce the issue. As a result, ANPR cameras have been fitted. There has been a noticeable reduction in reports to police since these were installed, but the situation will still be monitored.
